Sara Clegg - The Yellow Jacket The Waynesburg University Women’s tennis team, after the 7-0 loss to Allegheny, suffers another loss to fellow President’s Athletic Conference opponent Westminster 5-2.
The Yellow Jackets benefitted from a few team forfeits in last Friday’s match against Westminster, being given a free win in a singles and doubles match. Otherwise, the only set win for Waynesburg was a clean five singles performance from Senior Julia Corey, who only lost one point in two sets.
After the PAC loss, Waynesburg notched another victory at home against Ursuline, winning 6-1 with a modified lineup. In that lineup was Freshman Taylor Stephens, who earned both a singles and doubles on Sunday.
Alongside Freshman Celeste Matsaudza, Waynesburg has had a successful youth movement this season.
“Taylor and Celeste have been such a blessing to our lineup and program,” Head Coach Randy Pettit stated. “They are both great on and off the court.”
So far this season, the Lady Jackets have a home record of 4-3 record but have struggled on the road with an 0-2 record. The team’s upcoming games will all be away from Waynesburg, as they play on the road against Thiel and Geneva in back-to-back days. Coach Pettit is hoping for his team to find ways to edge out these conference opponents
“Those are important matches for us, and we just have to go play our match and somehow find four games in each one,” Pettit said.
The Lady Jackets look to continue their weekend success on Tuesday at Thiel. First serve is at 4:00 p.m.
