Women’s tennis wins sixth match of the year over Carlow

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Waynesburg Women’s team took down Carlow. The ladies have already claimed six wins this season, a feat they haven’t done since 2014.

“These girls have accomplished a lot this year and I am super proud of them,” associate athletic director and tennis coach Randy Pettit said. “They set some team goals at the beginning of the season and have been able to accomplish some of those with the work and dedication they have put in.”

The Jackets won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches.

Taylor Stephens picked up a win in her doubles and singles match. This takes the Freshman to six wins in both doubles and singles matches this season.

“Being a part of the women’s team has been such a great experience. I have been pleasantly surprised and grateful all season for the encouragement that the team has given me on and off the court. When I played in the first match of our season,” Stephens said.

Stephens also said about how she was pleasantly surprised in the support given mid-match and during the season.

“I was not expecting the cheers from my teammates while we were all mid-match. I have also had upperclassmen on our team reach out to me to grab coffee, and they made me feel welcome when I first came to campus.”

Coach Pettit won’t harp on this victory for very long. He hopes to bring home two more wins.

“We only have two matches left this week,” wrote Pettit. “I expect them to go out and compete as they always do.”

On Monday, Oct. 6 the women will take on Grove City at home at 4:00 p.m.
