WU students attend Colts-Steelers game with SAB

Walking through the entrance tunnel, the chants of “Here we go Steelers” echo throughout the stadium as fans wave the iconic Terrible Towels. This is what Waynesburg University students got to experience when they attended the Steelers versus Indianapolis Colts game with the Student Activities Board (SAB) on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Acrisure Stadium.

“It’s an opportunity that students don’t often get,” associate dean of students Pat Bristor said. “I hope those who went enjoyed it.”

The game was off to a rough start as the Steelers fell behind quickly due to a Daniel Jones one-yard rushing touchdown, but the Steelers were able to put on an excellent show of defense that pleased the Pittsburgh crowd.

“The first couple of minutes were kinda rough,” resident director and chaperone of this trip Thomas Hyland said. “I have always loved Pittsburgh sports. Just being in the stadium to see a game in person was great, including the atmosphere.”

Attending a professional sports game with a group of friends is a major part of student life at Waynesburg.

“It was awesome being able to go with my friends from the university,” freshman student Stone Mangas said. “It was a different experience, going with a big group of Waynesburg kids and it was a lot of fun.”

Junior Joe Chirillo took the time inside the stadium to buy some gifts for his family.

“I was able to do some Christmas shopping,” Chirillo said. “I went to the gift store and did some shopping for my family. The stadium has items that you can only get there in person. I’m glad to have gone.”

More sports-related events are in the works, with an opportunity to see a Penguins game in January.

“Things are winding down this semester, but on Thursday, we start to plot things on the calendar for next year,” Bristor said. “We have a Penguins game coming up in January that we’re collaborating with the Alumni office. We are also getting special quarter-zip up jackets for those who sign up.”
