The game was over by halftime.

The Waynesburg Central Raiders struggled to keep up with the size and talent of the Washington Little Prexies on Friday night, and it all started from the opening kickoff.

Waynesburg Central fumbled the opening kickoff, giving Washington an easy set up for its opening drive on the Waynesburg 32-yard line. With 11:21 remaining in the first quarter, senior running back Michael Allen rushed for a 20-yard touchdown for the first score of the game. The PAT was missed, which made it 6-0 Prexies.

That missed PAT, however, would be quickly made up. Only nine seconds later, Washington caused a Waynesburg Central safety, which made the score 8-0. A 23-yard touchdown pass from  sophomore quarterback Davoun Fuse to sophomore receiver Brandon Patterson came with a failed 2-point attempt making it 14-0. 

The next score would be a Washington 30-yard rushing touchdown by junior running back Tayshawn Levy, giving the Prexies a 21-0 lead after a made PAT.

The biggest part of the game for Waynesburg Central, unfortunately, was not positive. With just over eight minutes to play in the first quarter, a hard hit caused a leg injury to the Raiders’ star quarterback Darnell Johnson. He did not return to the game.

Waynesburg rushed 30 times for only 21 yards and gained no yards on one pass attempt for the entire game.

In the second quarter, with 9:10 left to play in the half, senior running back Vandell Page snuck into the endzone for a 4-yard rushing touchdown.

The second passing touchdown of the game came from a connection between Fuse and junior Michael Allen. It was a 17-yard pass with 5:33 remaining in the first half.

“We just focused on the play calling,” said senior running back Andre Porter, “just to open the playbook more, put more trust in our quarterback.”

At halftime, the score was 42-0 in favor of Washington.

A running clock in the second half would speed up the pace of the game, but Washington was still pushing to score. Sophomore quarterback Nicholas Blanchette stepped in for Fuse in the second half. The Prexies had two rushing touchdowns with Blanchette under center.

At the end of the game, the final score was 55-0. Washington had a total of 244 yards on 27 carries, and Fuse finished the night 4 for 10 with 101 yards.

Fuse was proud of the work from his teammates. 

“They’re always around, doing what they got to do to score and block,” Fuse said.

Washington’s coach was pleased with the Prexies performance and is looking ahead to a challenging road game next week. 

“Tonight was nice to have a positive night, get a win, and build some confidence,” said head coach Mike Bosnic.

Next week, Waynesburg Central plays at home against Charleroi at 7 p.m. Washington meanwhile, goes on the road to face a Chartiers-Houston team that is coming off a 21-6 win over Beth Center.

“Chartiers always plays us tough,” said Bosnic, “I’m excited. I think we can continue to get better and be a really good football team. We’re just trying to get better every day.”
