Baseball Names Tyler Rubasky New Baseball Head Coach

After nearly a decade away from Waynesburg, Tyler Rubasky is back where it all started, this time as the head coach of the baseball team.

Rubasky was announced as the team’s new head coach in August following the departure of Michael Impellittiere. Before taking over the program, Rubasky played for Waynesburg from 2012-16 and later returned as an assistant coach. He said becoming the head coach of his alma mater was something he had wanted for a long time.

“I always wanted to be the head coach since being an assistant here,” Rubasky said. “I played here, saw the job was open, submitted an offer and here I am. There’s no place I’d rather be.”

Since leaving Waynesburg, Rubasky has gained experience at several college baseball programs. Following the 2018 season, he moved to Indiana and became an assistant at Franklin College in 2019. He then made the move to Division II, joining Davis & Elkins in West Virginia as an assistant coach the following year.

Rubasky spent two seasons with the Senators before returning to Division III in 2023. He took the top assistant position at Trine in Indiana, where he spent two seasons. He then stayed in Indiana for one more season as an assistant at Anderson. During his time there, Rubasky played a major role in the team’s recruiting efforts.

Now, Rubasky is back at Waynesburg and preparing for his first season as a head coach. While this will be his first time leading a college team, his previous coaching experience has given him confidence heading into the season.

“I feel confident about the season. We have a good group of guys coming back who are hungry to win,” Rubasky said. “We’re always going to be working throughout fall and winter so we’re in top form for the spring.”

Having played at Waynesburg himself, Rubasky also knows what it is like to be on the other side of the program.

“Carrying over the success I had with Anderson last season won’t show immediately,” Rubasky said. “It’s hard adjusting to a new program and who you play but that’s part of the process.”

With fall practices starting this week and a strong group of returning players, the Yellow Jackets are looking forward to the upcoming season.
