An issue with Waynesburg University dining happened on students’ first day back. The BeeHive, the self-ordering food system on the second floor of Stover Campus Center, experienced technical problems with their kiosks and were forced to close until further notice. 

Not only did this happen on Aug. 24, the first day with students back, but it too happened on Aug. 27.

An email was sent out by Mary Woessner, administrative assistant for Student Service, on both occurrences. The email was used as a warning to students who were planning to eat in the BeeHive that it would be closed temporarily until the kiosks were up and running properly. 

Elior, the food catering company, is used at Waynesburg University for both the Benedum Dining Hall and the BeeHive. Michele Houston, the resident district manager for Elior, was asked about the issues that occurred with the BeeHive.

“Our technical support team was able to identify and resolve both issues,” Houston said. “One was related to the software system that processes the swipes. The second issue was a hardware device failure. Both issues have been remedied. There were no safety concerns with either issue.”

Houston also wanted to thank the students of Waynesburg University for their patience through the processing of the technical issues. 

“Fortunately, our students are resilient and adaptable, and we are grateful for their understanding as we worked to resolve the issue,” Houston said. 

Houston explained what the process has been like since having problems and how she and her team worked to get back to the usual work flow. 

“Our team has testing protocols in place to identify issues proactively which can reduce the possibility of downtime,” Houston said. “In the unusual circumstances where an issue occurs, we work to solve it quickly with minimal disruption to our service… Our numbers are back to normal levels, and we continue to provide an astounding product.”

Although the BeeHive was shut down, students were still able to go to other locations around campus like the Benedum Dining Hall and Chick-fil-A. 

The BeeHive is back up and running with no remaining technical difficulties, students are able to order food and beverage at the usual hours of operation.
