Downtown Waynesburg holds 25th annual 50s Fest

On Sept. 12, Waynesburg hosted its annual 50s Fest and Car Cruise from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on East High Street.

As they have done every year this event has been around, the WANB radio station had its own booth and were playing 1950’s classics throughout the entire day.

Part time communication instructor and host at WANB Douglas Wilson shared his thoughts on just how much 50s Fest has meant to him.

“I’m not sure if I can articulate what this event means to me,” Wilson said. “But I am really proud of the fact that this event has managed to continue year after year.”

This year, 50s Fest and Car Cruise celebrated its 25th year.

Bethany McCollum-Tanner, owner of Battle & Thrive, shared her thoughts on getting to be a part of 50s Fest as a whole.

“One thing I enjoyed on a personal level was really seeing the comradery from all of the classic car individuals who brought their cars to the event,” McCollum-Tanner said. “This year we didn’t advertise as much as we would’ve liked to but because it’s already been established for 25 years people knew exactly when to come even if they didn’t know it was still happening and seeing the dedication from the car owners was kind of incredible.”

There were 93 cars that registered and 101 total cars participated in the annual event and tradition for Greene County.

“I think 50s Fest offers a unique opportunity to welcome people from all over to see what a great area we have here in Greene County,” Wilson said. “There are people who travel hundreds of miles to be part of this special car show. For them to travel so far to be part of this event must mean it’s special to them.”

McCollum-Tanner has been attending the event for over a decade.

“This year has been my first year with 50s Fest,” McCollum-Tanner said. “I grew up in Waynesburg and I’m a Waynesburg University Alumni also so I have been to 50s Fest almost every year since it started, and my dad also provided the sounds system that Doug uses at 50s fest ever since it started.”
