Lacrosse falls to Thiel on the road

The women’s lacrosse team traveled to Thiel on Wednesday night to take on the Tomcats and lost 18-1.

With this loss Waynesburg drops to 0-6 on the road this year.

“After four away games our team is ready to play at home,” Lorne said. “We are ready to finally perform on our home turf again and we can’t wait for our next matchup.”

Defenseman Ziomara Reyes talked about the team’s emotions on getting the first conference game of the year out of the way.

“Going into our third game of the week, which was also our first conference game, I think we were feeling pretty good,” Reyes said. “Although a lot of our girls were tired or in pain, everyone pushed through and played a good game with a great mindset.”

Thiel got off to a hot start as they scored five in the first quarter and six in the second quarter which caused the game to have a running clock. The Tomcats would score seven more goals throughout the final two quarters.

With nine minutes left in the fourth quarter attacker Angelina Darpino would score Waynesburg’s only goal.

“I think our overall mindset was just to go into the game in a positive way no matter what, and have fun,” Reyes said.

In this game, Waverly Lorne set the single-game ground ball record with 14 pickups. She also caused 12 turnovers giving her the second highest one-game total in Waynesburg history.

“Setting the single game ground ball record for Waynesburg is cool,” Lorne said. “I just wanted to do everything in my power to make sure our team had possession of the ball.”

Through nine games this seasons Lorne has scored 20 goals, 21 points, has had 41 shots on goal and has one total assist thus far this season.

Waynesburg is now 1-8 overall this season and 0-1 in conference.

Waynesburg’s next game will be played at home on Wednesday April 3rd against Chatham. The game starts at 6pm.
