Lacrosse loses to conference opponent Grove City

The Waynesburg women’s lacrosse team was on the road Tuesday as they faced off against the first place Grove City Wolverines falling 22-1.

“Our mindset was good,” London said. “We had a beautiful day to play lacrosse and we’re so thankful we were able to play lacrosse and so we were thankful we were able to play this game as it was scheduled. We really appreciated GCC accommodating us as well to keep our PAC schedule on track.”

Grove City scored 11 goals in the first two quarters of the game, leading to a continuous running clock for the rest of the game.

“GCC is a dominant team in the PAC,” London said. “We knew they were going to be fierce competition and execute clean lacrosse. For us, the gameplan was to go out, play hard, go for everything, and play as a team.”

Waynesburg’s Anna Bradley scored for Waynesburg with eight minutes and fifty-five seconds left in the second quarter.

“As someone who’s been in net the past couple of years as a goalie, the opportunity to return to attack has been such an adrenaline rush,” Bradley said. “Honestly though, our team has a lot to prove to everyone and after being ranked last in the preseason poll, I’m just glad I get to a part of changing the name for the program here at Waynesburg.”

Waverley Lorne, Gabriella Provenzano, Ziomara Reyes, and Megan Wilson all combined for nine total turnovers throughout the game while Reyes, Wilson and Lorne combined for five ground balls.

“So far this season, the team has really improved on our overall skills,” Bradley said. “A lot of girls had never played lacrosse before this year, and it’s insane to see how much everyone has grown.”

Waynesburg is currently 1-10 overall this season, and 0-3 in conference play.

They will travel to West Virginia on Saturday to take on the Bethany Bison with the game starting at 4 p.m.

“The team is excited for our matchup against Bethany,” London said. “It should be a good game if we commit to playing as a team and utilizing the skills and talent, we know they possess. Everyone must want it if we want to come out victorious.”
