Legendary Con coming to Waynesburg in July

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope. It’s the pop culture convention Legendary Con coming to the EQT REC Center in Waynesburg July 8-9.

According to Legendary Con’s David Plavi, the convention first occurred in Morgantown, West Virginia in 2021 as the Mountaineer Comic-Con and only recently changed the name.

“We decided to focus on the small-town approach, giving back to the community and bringing the big city events close to home,” Plavi said. “It’s a celebration of nostalgia, pop culture and entertainment.”

This is the first multi-day event in Waynesburg since Legendary Con’s inception. Smaller one-day events have been held there before with another one happening April 15.

According to Legendary Con’s Facebook page, the April 15 event is the Waynesburg Toy and Comic Expo, which will also be taking place at the EQT REC Center.

As for the main event in July, the convention chose Waynesburg to avoid competing with other similar events, according to Plavi.

“This type of event needs to draw large crowds, so the most important thing to look at is the potential of having regional competition,” Plavi said. “With events going on within a reasonable driving distance throughout the year, July was the only time it appeared there were no other events to draw people away from us.”

Plavi said that attendees can meet celebrities from the 90s and 2000s and discover talented artists from the region. The convention will also be the largest comic book shop in the area for the two days it’s in town.

Legendary Con’s website has a list of guests that will attend the convention, including Walter E. Jones from “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” Karyn Parsons from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and Joshua Seth from “Digimon.”

Vendors that are listed on the convention’s website include Four Horsemen Comics, 1331 Studios, and Dylan Winfield.

Also according to its website, there will be a costume contest hosted by Cosplay World.

Tickets are available now through the link on the website and range from $9 for just Sunday, July 9 to $50 for the VIP Weekend Pass.

Plavi recommends checking Legendary Con’s website and Facebook page for further announcements and updates.
