On Jan. 22, 2025, RGB Coffeehouse had an Open Mic Night from 5-8 p.m. Artists from all over the Pennsylvania area got to show off their talents, have some coffee and enjoy the company of friends, families and the community.
Ben McMillan, the owner of RGB, was very excited about having the first “official” Open Mic Night, saying, “We tested this out about a month and a half ago, but this was our first official Mic Night tonight.”
Savannah Britt, who was one of the performers, was also very excited about the opportunity to perform at RGB. “I’ve been taking lessons with Luke for about 10 years,” Britt said. “I took about a four-year break, and I heard about the live music from him and RGB. I’d heard from social media and the community and when he asked me to sing and be a part of the community, I couldn’t pass it down.”
Open Mic Night was one of the first big events RGB had planned, however, this won’t be the only thing RGB will be doing throughout the year. McMillan said, “In an effort to try to stay relevant and keep pushing forward, our daytime crowd is great, but we are trying to beef up our nighttime crowd. We are starting to do different entertainment at night by doing open mic nights. We are going to have entertainment on Fridays, we are going to try trivia nights and other things like that, just trying to build up our evening crowd.”
This event gives artists the opportunity to get their name out into the community and really showcase themselves, regardless of if it is something they do full-time, on the side or even just as a hobby. “I am a radiographer at the Washington hospital,” Britt said. “Music is a huge part of my life and I want to continue being a musician and just keep progressing and getting out there, hopefully getting more gigs and singing more places and even if it doesn’t go anywhere, I do it for myself and that’s the biggest part about it. Music has been a big part of my life.”
RGB is not just open to people in the Waynesburg community, it is also open to all areas of Pennsylvania as well. This allows for artists from different areas of PA to come and perform. “I have friends who are musicians, and they are always traveling out of town to perform,” McMillan said.
Britt mentioned what RGB really means to the community and what an event like this can do for RGB. “I think this is a really great place to bring your friends and family and just hang out. Being a really small community, they make you feel at home and just continuing to have live music and giving something people can listen to and talk about while also bringing the community together as well,” Britt concluded.
RGB is open Monday-Sunday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
