The Waynesburg University Campus Ministry team with Essence Suggs’ guidance and support offer Bibles and other resources while proving their contributions toward fostering an environment for personal growth.
Suggs, an Alumni of the University, as well as Resident Director of Denny and Ray halls and Community Initiatives Coordinator, shared some of her thoughts of being the assistant to Chaplain Joshua Sumpter here at Waynesburg. “It is an amazing opportunity to get to work under Chaplain Sumpter and for this amazing community. We believe it would have been an unbelievable opportunity for us as a staff to recommend these Bibles and other Christian faith texts to the bright young future,” she said.
Suggs has key tasks and one of them being to provide students with access to faith- related sources. She and the ministry provide Bibles, religious texts, and organize christian events to students who are interested. To add to that, Suggs and the staff provide digital resources to the community, offering opportunities to learn and explore faith online.
With Chaplain Sumpters’ limited availability, Suggs and her assistance become an immediate resource for students’ lives.
Chaplain Sumpter spoke passionately about the impact of Suggs. “Essence is a great resource for everyone here. She has not even been here for a very long time but has made such an impact on students’ lives. She is able to shape not only students but the communities spiritual and emotional well being.”
From chaplain of the campus to assistant, to students who foster this environment, all make up a holistic support for the community and students when they arrive here at Waynesburg University.
