Bad Bunny will be headlining this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. A lot of people have their quarrels with this decision for varying reasons. The most common reason has to do with the fact that he does not speak English. With a lot of the NFL’s fanbase being English speakers, some people are giving a lot of hate online directed at Bad Bunny.
I can understand people being upset, but the hate towards Bad Bunny is uncalled for. Even if you disagree or don’t fit the demographic that he appeals to, it isn’t necessary.
I am not a fan of Bad Bunny for the sole reason that I do not speak Spanish, so that Halftime Show does not pique my interest. You also cannot learn Spanish in time for the show, which is what Bad Bunny told everyone, via CNN.
However, this move makes sense: the Super Bowl’s priority should not be to lure in the American or English-speaking audience; it should be to lure in other audiences, and Bad Bunny can surely do that.
Not only does he cater to a different audience, but people seem to forget the importance of the Spanish language in the U.S. According to Forbes, 13% of the American people are Spanish Speakers, which is around 44 million people. So while I personally am not happy with the decision, I can understand it entirely.
That being said, I think there were so many better options, primarily Morgan Wallen. Morgan Wallen remains one of, if not the most popular country artist in the world. There is a good chance that if you live in the U.S., you’ve heard of him or one of his songs, and they are great.
The United States is where country music thrives; you would think that the genre is often displayed on the biggest stage the U.S. offers. Sadly, Country1025.com tells us the last country performance was in 2003 by Shania Twain.
Wallen is lively, has toured all around the U.S., and he even has NFL stars regularly walk out with him in his concerts. He also released an album this year. It’s the perfect fit, and I think he would’ve been a much better selection than Bad Bunny.
