Waynesburg Farmers’ Market

The Waynesburg Farmers’ Market has been an ongoing source of produce and baked goods in Greene County for 20 years. Every Wednesday from mid-May through mid-October from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., vendors line up in the Borough Parking Lot #3 at the corner of Morris and High Street to sell to local residents.

Some vendors, such as Sue Joseph of Sue’s Bakery, have been local sellers from the beginning.

“I’ve done this for 20 years and I like to do it for the people,” Joseph said. “It makes them happy.”

Other vendors started a few years after the start of the farmers market, but have seen a lot of success since then. Lizzy Volz of Harden Family Farm and Market says they have been in collaboration with Greene County for about 18 years.

“We get produce from all over,” Volz said. “We grow most of our vegetables and we get our fruit from Indiana, Pennsylvania.”

Harden Family Farm and Market is a family-owned and run business that brings a sense of community to Waynesburg and the farmers market each week with its fresh produce and other items.

“We’re a family-run farm. All the helpers are usually either related to our boss or a family friend, like myself,” Volz said. “I’ve worked there most of my life.”

The farmers market also has other vendors other than food and fresh produce. Terri Laird of Bliss Hollow Farms Lavender says she started growing lavender once she retired because of the love she has for it.

“People enjoy the smell and the look of it when it’s growing. It’s very pretty,” Laird said. “I enjoy coming to the market because it’s enjoyable with the people, even if they just enjoy smelling it. You can sell your things and still talk with people and enjoy the comradeship with them.”

Other vendors such as Plum Run Winery, Collins Family Produce and Moonlight Gardens can be found among the businesses on Wednesdays.
