The Waynesburg University ladies’ tennis team hosted fellow PAC school Grove City College for a match on Friday, September 8th.
In the match, there were three doubles and six singles overall, with Grove City taking all of the doubles.
Sophomores Julia Corey and Julia Luzar dropped their doubles match by a score of 8-0 against Grove City’s Emily Ivory and Janel McCray.
Waynesburg sophomore Felicia Duffy and freshman Karly Starcher, lost their match 8-0 in their doubles as they faced Alyssa Good and Catherine Petrovich. This gave Grove City two points to their total.
Sophomores Alli Bailey and Aubrey Burns from Waynesburg managed to take one round, but still dropped the doubles 8-1 ultimately to Courtney DeCarlo and Peyton Joines.
At the conclusion of the doubles, Grove City led by a score of 3-0.
The singles began shortly after the doubles ended, to which Waynesburg fell in each round.
Julia Corey went head to head with Catherine Petrovich and lost 2 matches, giving Grove City a 4-0 lead in the match overall.
The remainder of Waynesburg’s singles were similar as Julia Luzar, Felicia Duffy, Aubrey Burns, and Alli Bailey dropped both of their matches against Peyton Joines, Emily Ivory, Janel McCray and Alyssa Good respectively.
The lone freshman for Waynesburg, Karly Stracher lost in her matches as well in one of her first college matches.
However, she has taken advantage of the transition between her high school tennis days at St. Mary’s and her new college experience here at Waynesburg.
“It’s very different and it is taken way more seriously,” Strcher said. “I am actually very excited to face new challenges such as working out more and facing tough matches like today’s contest. My teammates make my transition so much easier.”
Grove City took the match overall 9-0, making Waynesburg 0-2 on the season.
The ladies travel to Allegheny on September 14th, where they have a PAC matchup against the Gators at a 5 p.m. scheduled start.
