Women’s soccer secures three more points before facing reigning champs

The Waynesburg University Women’s Soccer has a big challenge for their next game, as they will be playing two top teams in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in back-to-back games.

Before that though the Yellow Jackets competed against the Bethany Bison and were able to pick up a 3-0 win.

“We took it to them,” said Head Coach George DeAugustino. “We were way more efficient offensively and looked a lot better.”

With those three more points from the win, the women’s team currently sits in third place as the Grove City Wolverines and the Westminster Titans sit in first and second place respectively. The gap is tight though, as the difference between first place to fourth place is just three points which is just one game.

“I think we have a really good chance to get in the top six,” said Assistant Coach Emily Redman. “We are keeping possession more and creating more opportunities.”

Currently, Waynesburg is tied for first in most goals scored with a total of 25. The only other team with that many goals are the Titans, who have one of the top 15 goal scorers in Division III women’s soccer in freshman forward Chloe LaRosa, who has 14 goals this season.

“They are a great team and we are excited to play them,” DeAugustino said. “We have to make sure we know where LaRosa is and defend as a team.”

The Yellow Jackets are also receiving notable contribution from their backup goalkeeper, as their starter, freshman Alexus Greenlief is out with an internal bleeding health issue.

The women’s soccer team will be on the road this Saturday as they face off against the Westminster Titans on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.

Following that game, they will be back home to battle against the Grove City Wolverines on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m.
