Waynestock returning for end of the semester

Waynesburg University will be hosting its annual Waynestock event on April 26. It is the university’s end of the year celebration, which will include a picnic dinner, music, games and much more.

“We will have music from the Delaney Acoustic Duo, caricatures, the picnic-style dinner and yard games, such as cornhole and spike ball,” Pat Bristor, associate dean of students, said.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) has provided a myriad of activities throughout the spring semester, including bingo, sponsored sporting events and viewing of the solar eclipse. Students working with the SAB encourage others to come out to the events, as well as consider being involved in SAB. “The more people there are to help out, the more that we can do around campus,” said sophomore Ella Dowell, who has been a member of SAB since her freshman year. “The more range we have between majors will also help us be able to do more things that could be beneficial to particular majors.”

Dowell further encouraged students to attend these events, as the SAB is able to gauge the interest from the students in what activities they should bring to campus. “It allows the SAB to determine what they should continue doing,” Dowell said. “The more participation, the more resources we might purchase to allow everyone to be involved.”

The tradition of Waynestock on campus has been going on for around “15 to 20” years, according to Bristor. Keeping the tradition alive is a goal for Bristor and the university.

“The tradition of Waynestock is important to keep around because it gives a chance to say goodbye for those students leaving, as well as gives the opportunity for the community to get together,” Bristor said. “It comes full circle for those leaving.”

Originally listed to take place on April 19, Waynestock is now moved to April 26, the last Friday of the semester. It will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Johnson Commons.
