WAYNESBURG, PA – This past weekend on Saturday, Nov. 2, the Social Service League hosted its 29th annual Holiday Extravaganza Craft Show. The event was held at the EQT Rec Center.
The Social Service League is a non-profit women’s organization that provides several services for disadvantaged children and their families. The members of the craft show this year included Christine Turcheck, Tera Adamson, Lynn Stoneking and Linda Corfront, all of whom worked with school personnel to help identify students and their specific needs.
“The purpose of this event is to raise money that can be used in all of the mentioned ways below to help the students of Central Greene School District,” according to Corfrornt. “It also lets vendors display and celebrate their hard work, being that all of our vendors have to sell handmade items.”
At the event, vendors displayed jewelry, clothing, toys, decorations and so much more, along with allowing attendees an opportunity to create their crafts for display.
“As for the goals, we want to have a successful event for all,”Corfront said. “This includes raising money, but also wanting our vendors to be successful in their sales.”
According to Jan Teagarden, who serves as the secretary for the Department of English & Foreign Languages, the Department of Communication and the Department of Business Administration, as well as being one of the attendees of the event, said that the event had a good turnout from the Greene County community and those who attended were not disappointed with what was presented by the vendors.
“I thought it was great,”Teagarden said. “It was well organized and the environment was very good.”
For the Social Service League, the event was considered a success, as they were able to go above expectations as far as money raised and the crowd that attended.
“Our goal is to raise money for children in the Central Greene School District,” Corfront saide. “And we raised over our expectations just with this one event.”
