For the Yellow Jacket
Three weeks ago, the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse had a volleyball matchup in store between the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets and the Bethany Bison.
Coming in, Waynesburg had won five of its last six matches. They were not able, however, to stay hot in this match.
Bethany took each set, giving the Bison a 3-0 victory.
“We were a little bit too confident tonight, and that showed in the way that we played,” Waynesburg head coach Emily Taylor said.
Back and forth scoring to begin the first set led to a 3-3 score. From there, Bethany took full control, going up 15-4 and ended up winning the first set 25-14.
Waynesburg came out for the second set and scored the first point. After that, Bethany scored 13 unanswered. The second set went Bethany’s way with a 25-8 score.
To begin the third set, Bethany got out to a 14-3 lead. Waynesburg’s women showed fight to get the score to 17-12. The Bison closed it out from there, once again taking the set 25-14.
Taylor’s message to the team after the match was, “Clean it up a little bit and kind of forget about it.”
Waynesburg played its next game Thursday, Sept. 23 on the road against Geneva College.
“I expect Geneva to play a fast game. They always have,” Taylor said. “We just need to clean up our game and focus on the changes that we need to make to be better, and we can beat anyone who walks into a gym next to play us.”
