Fine Arts Dept. presents ‘We Will Rock You’

Waynesburg University’s Fine Arts Department is bringing back a blast from the past for this year’s spring musical. Friends and family are welcome to join in an evening of music featuring some of Queen’s most noteworthy hits. The event will take place Wednesday, March 30, through Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m.

According to a Waynesburg University press release, “This year’s musical, ‘We Will Rock You,’ is based on songs by British rock band Queen with a storyline by Ben Elton. The story follows the journey of Bohemian rebels trying to restore thought and rock and roll music in a futuristic world controlled by an internet giant, Globalsoft.

The audience will hear many covers of their songs such as ‘Somebody to Love,’ ‘I Want It All,’ ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love,’ ‘We are the Champions’ and ‘We Will Rock You.’”

Edward Powers, professor of theater and director of all theater activities and programs at Waynesburg University, said he is especially excited at the prospect of having a live audience after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If and when people wanna sing along to say ‘We are the Champions’ it will really bring the energy in the room to a whole other level, and that is just wonderful,” Powers said.

This event will take place in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center located on the Waynesburg University campus.

Ticket prices are $5 for community members and $3 for Waynesburg students, faculty and staff. They are available for purchase online at https://waynesburg.ticketleap.com/rock-you/
