How has “The Journey” continued to grow faith community at WU?

Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Sophomore electronic media major Connor Hoye has put those words into practical use, as Hoye enters his second semester as the producer of “The Journey,” WCTV’s only faith-based show.

“I just love sharing my passion for Jesus and spreading the Gospel a little bit through YouTube and through the community,” Hoye said.

Throughout the New Testament, God wants Christians to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and bring more people into His fellowship. In various forms from direct commands to parables as to the importance of why extending the gospel is needed according to a commentary written by Gerald Lang on March 5, 2013 for the C.S.Lewis Institute.

“The Journey” has three main segments in the show that talk about the Gospel and how God has helped them in their life. The first segment is called “God’s Creation,” which talks about environmental aspects of the world with a Bible verse that describes God’s creation. Uplifting music is then played and those on the segment speak about music that has special meaning and relates it to God. Occasionally, singers will make guest appearances to perform a song for the episode. “Word of Encouragement” is the final segment, which aims to bring a positive verse to help the viewers.

In April of last year, Hoye made the change of having the segment, “Saint Of The Day” switched to “God’s Creation”.

“I decided to think of some things that I should include like new ideas so that I would maybe, possibly secure my spot as ‘The Journey’ producer,” Hoye said. “I thought of some new, one of my favorites being the new segment, ‘God’s creation,’ which I created this year and it’s gone really well.”

One of the students who frequently makes appearances in the show is Joseph Chirillo, who served as the previous producer for the show.

“I enjoyed working with the crew and being able to show and express my faith,” Chirillo said. “I then had the opportunity to produce the show for the second semester of my freshman year, which I enjoyed.”

“The Journey” works as an outlet for students to be able to express their thoughts and feelings about Christ without feeling any judgment. Students also give personal messages that have helped them out in the past.

“I mainly try and promote a message of positivity and that even in your darkest moments, God is still there to help you into the light and be closer with him,” Chirillo said. “This comes after my personal experience where my life changed when God helped me out of a dark place.”
