Men’s Basketball falls St. Vincent, losing five straight

The Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets lost their fifth straight game Wednesday, falling 78-62 to the Saint Vincent College Bobcats.

This loss marks five straight losses for the Yellow Jackets.

“I don’t think we’ve lost confidence. I feel like, as a team, we do a good job of trying to keep everyone positive while we’re going through this drought,” senior guard PJ Suggs said.

In the loss, the Yellow Jackets shot 40-percent from the field, including 20-percent from three-point range and 36-percent from the free-throw line.

Waynesburg did manage to out-rebound Saint Vincent 47-34.

Graduate student forward Antone Baker led the Jackets in scoring with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Suggs also made an impact on the offensive end, scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds.

Senior center Jaylen Davis contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

Waynesburg led the Bobcats 14-9 in the first eight minutes of play.

“The first eight minutes showed us that when we play the right way, we can compete with anyone,” Suggs said.

The Yellow Jackets then trailed Saint Vincent 39-28 at halftime. From there, the Bobcats never looked back, outshooting Waynesburg 39-34 in the second half.

The loss made the Yellow Jackets’ playoff push even harder. They now sit in ninth place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, with only three games remaining.

“It’d be easy to say we just want to see some wins, but at this point I think we all just want to put together complete games and find lineups that will work in the future,” junior guard Scott Bilovus said.

Bilovus scored seven points in the loss, with six of those coming from three-point range.

The Yellow Jackets face off against another PAC opponent Saturday, taking on the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents with tip-off being at 3 p.m.
