Men’s golf team places eighth at Penn State Altoona Invitational

This past weekend the Waynesburg University men’s golf team participated in the Penn State Altoona Invitational where they finished eighth out of 15 teams.

Head coach Mike Cipoletti said he was impressed with how the team performed Saturday.

“We played a solid round of golf for most of the day on Saturday,” Cipoletti said. “A lot of people had problems playing on this course. It wasn’t easy to play on, but we dug in and continued to chip away all day long.”

At the conclusion of Saturday’s match, sophomore Luke Diel and senior Alex Orlandini performed particularly well throughout the day and their leadership was definitely something that stood out to Cipoletti.

“They both shot great this weekend and at the invitational and they also showed what type of leaders they were,” he said. “In the process, they both stepped up and played really well, despite how hard the course was playing on that day.”

The men’s golf team will be back in action Friday, Sept. 27 at Carlow, a team that they’ve beat once before. Cipoletti is confident that the success from the first match willy carry over to the weekend.

“We’ve played here before, and we played really well,” Cipoletti said. “Playing there this year was really good for us. We played really well and should be able to come away with [another encouraging performance] depending on how the coarse plays and how the weather holds up over the weekend.”
