Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Team Shine in the Mountaineer Twilight

Only a select few went to the WVU Mountaineer Twilight meet, but the few were mighty having six top-three finishes.

“I know the potential I have,” sophomore discus thrower John Stewart said. “It feels good to see that potential start to get unlocked.”

Stewart began the successful day with a 44.56-meter throw in discus to take first place over NCAA Division I and II programs. That mark from Stewart puts him second in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference for the season.

“It is a lot of technique stuff that I have been repping,” Stewart said. “I’m not trying to force my way through the throws and rather think my way through the throw.”

On the track senior Kai Herbert and sophomore Ty Williams ran the 110-meter hurdles. Hebert placed fourth (15.96) while Williams took second (15.57).

Herbert and Williams after their performances have just one man to thank for the results, God.

“All glory to God,” Herbert said. “I’m just happy to be here.”

“My mind has just been on God, there’s been a lot of ups and downs,” Williams said. “I’ve tried to center my mind and focus on God.”

The next outing for the Waynesburg University men’s outdoor track and field team is the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday and Friday, right back at West Virginia University.

“I’m trying to win,” Stewart said. “I have PACs for two more years, I’m just focused on breaking our school records.”

Last outdoor season Williams placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, and this season he has a different approach to the PAC Championships.

“First and foremost, the goal is to glorify God,” Williams said. “Just trust in Him and know that I’m going to have a better result than last year.”

Herbert did not place in the Championships last season after taking fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump in 2022, after an injury-ridden season in 2024 he looks to bounce back.

“I just gotta keep God first,” Herbert said. “This year just having Him by my side through everything, it gives me the motivation to keep being great.”

The PAC Championships begin Thursday, April 25 at 4 p.m. with men’s and women’s javelin. Friday starts at 2 p.m. with the men’s and women’s high jump.
