Men’s Tennis nearing season’s end following two PAC matchups

The Waynesburg University has been non-stop as of late, competing against conference opponents Saint Vincent and Grove City on Monday and Wednesday respectively

The Waynesburg University men’s tennis team lost to St. Vincent 8-1 on Monday, April 15, at their last home game of the season.

Senior Ethan Lown had a successful day, winning his first singles matchup 6-4 and 6-1. Lown and his doubles partner, Adam Huckestein, also played a competitive doubles match that they would eventually lose in a tiebreaker.

Lown spoke about his win, as well as his thoughts on ending his senior season.

“I played a good match against a strong opponent,” Lown said. “I was able to execute my shots and frustrate my opponent. Capitalizing on crucial points is what led to my win.”

Lown continued to speak on what is motivating him to finish his senior season out strong with it winding down in the coming weeks.

“With two matches left, there’s not much extra motivation I need,” Lown continued. “I’ll do everything I can to help our team win. I would love for my senior season to end on a high note with some victories down the stretch.”

Senior Keegan Raabe also competed in second doubles as well as third singles on Monday. He looks ahead to the team’s upcoming match against Grove City.

“We know coming into it that Grove City is a very good team that gives us a challenge every year,” Raabe said. “We have worked a lot on our fundamentals throughout the last few weeks, especially hitting the ball away from the man at the net in doubles. We hope to get two wins in our last two matches of the year to finish out some player’s senior seasons.”

Waynesburg men’s tennis lost to Grove City 8-1 on Wednesday, April 17. The Yellow Jackets are now 1-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play while Grove City is 10-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Ethan Lown continued to win, as he defeated Grove City’s Jose Pablo Leon in singles 6-4 and 6-0. The rest of the Waynesburg team, however, could not capitalize in the singles matches.
