On Feb. 8, the Waynesburg men’s wrestling team traveled to the John Summa Wrestling invitational.
Sophomore Jessie Orbin won the 184-pound title for Waynesburg.
Orbin notched the bonus point victories with two of those victories being by technical falls.
“Beating a guy that was ranked ahead of him feels amazing especially heading into the PAC tournament,” Orbin said.
Orbin is very excited to be wrestling in the PAC tournament which is hosted by Waynesburg this year.
“My intentions going into every tournament is to win the whole thing. I always want first,” Orbin said.
Orbin has very high expectations going into this and wants to stay healthy and keep the train rolling into the PAC tournament after finishing second place in his weight class last season.
“I am going into the PAC tournament very happy and healthy,” Orbin said.
Senior Seth Evans is another wrestler who has competed well this weekend and all season.
Evans went 1-2 in this tournament and is looking to come back stronger and better for the PAC tournament.
“Every competition gives me something I can focus on throughout the week to improve for the next tournament,” Evans said.
Thiel’s Landon Mead was pinned by Seth Evans in 3:46 before he went on to wrestle number 1 ranked 157 pounds and was defeated. Evans explained how he will come back ready for the PAC.
“This tournament is in the past; I can’t change anything that happened. All I can is find the things that I messed up on but focus more on the things that have helped me win in the past,” Evans said.
Waynesburg as a team placed 12 out of 13 with coach McKinney only took four wrestlers. Other wrestlers that wrestled were Kevin Willis wrestling at 197 pounds and Jaron Polk and 285 pounds.
Waynesburg wrestle again in the Presidents Athletic Conference tournament as it is held at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse at Waynesburg. The tournament is Feb. 15 wrestling starts at 11 a.m.
