Waynesburg University’s “Muse & Stone” literary magazine is accepting submissions for the upcoming 2024 issue until Friday, Feb. 16. Students can submit their own artwork, from painting to photos, as well as both fiction and nonfiction writings for this student media project, which is published each spring.
“We focus on supporting and encouraging writers and artists across all departments to submit and share work they are proud of,” student editor, Jay Komoroski, stated in an email interview.
The team behind “Muse & Stone” is dedicated to their work.
“Every time we receive a submission, we feel honored and inspired that a student chose to submit their piece, that we get to see it, Komoroski stated. “I know it can be scary and nerve-wracking to share pieces with others, but student art and literature is what makes “Muse & Stone” the creative and inspiring magazine that it is.”
Komoroski commented on the effort that goes into the project.
“This position has presented challenges at times, but it has been an extremely beneficial experience in growing my leadership, coordination, and communication skills. I have an even deeper appreciation for the arts and those who participate in them,” Komoroski stated.
Submissions can be of four different genres, being that of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and artwork. For writings, there is a word count of 6,000 words. “Muse & Stone” exists mainly to give students a way of sharing their own personality to the world through a creative work.
“Submitting your work to someone you don’t know can be terrifying – I know I was very nervous when I submitted pieces during my Sophomore year – but all art deserves the chance to be seen and recognized, Komoroski stated. “Even if it’s a small, silly poem you wrote at 3 a.m., you may be surprised at how many people appreciate and enjoy reading it.”
Students who wish to submit their work to “Muse & Stone” can reach out to Dr. Robert Randolph, adviser, at rrandolp@waynesburg.edu or Komoroski at julia.komoroski@student.waynesburg.edu. Submissions are accepted until Feb. 16.
