On Campus vs Off Campus Dine In

Which do you prefer: Benedum Dining Hall or Don Patron? The Beehive or Fruition? Chick-fil-A or Dickey’s Barbeque Pit?

Some people may say that they would rather go eat in the Benedum Dining Hall than go to Don Patrons, and to those people, I ask why?

When it comes to the on-campus dine-in options, truthfully, there is only one that stands out above them all: Chick-fil-A. In a Google Forms survey of 17 Waynesburg University students, specifically sent out to students in the Department of Communication, each one ranked Chick-fil-A as their go-to option for on-campus dining. I would have to agree, but some students prefer to just eat off campus.

“I tend to think the café food is pretty bad, even the best days aren’t that good,”  junior Aaron Sanders said. “Occasionally the burrito bar is pretty good, but even that is few and far between. Usually, I prefer going to Sheetz or Don Patrons instead; their food is always good, but the issue is I actually have to pay for it.”

Going off campus for food is always a bit frustrating since the reality of that is paying for the food you purchase. Yes, it is important to eat, but when paying for a meal plan, students want quality food.

“A lot of the time at the café, the food is very lackluster,” junior Ella Boothe said. “Most of the time, I will end up eating in my room, making my own food or sometimes I will find myself at Chick-fil-A. But I am not at the Beehive a lot either because a lot of the stuff from the BeeHive is fried food and I don’t love that.”

So, if the campus dine-in options aren’t what you want, what are some places off campus that may be better?

In the same survey, students voted that Dickey’s Barbeque and Don Patrons were their favorite places to eat off campus. Both restaurants are close to campus and more affordable, adding to the market value for college students than other locations according to feedback from the survey.

One student who completed the survey even said to try out Casa Capri since it is also affordable and close to campus.

There may be times when you need a good burrito. To fill that need, you have plenty of options. So now the question is: Benedum Dining Hall or Don Patrons?
