Scholarship Day for COM Dept.

On Monday, April 8, Waynesburg University’s Department of Communication finally had the opportunity to host this year’s Scholarship Day, which was pushed back from March 18 due to Charter Day festivities.

Scholarship Day is where high school seniors will get an opportunity to come to Waynesburg University to possibly earn an academic scholarship from the major they will be joining in the fall semester.

Current students and staff take this day extra seriously to showcase what occurs on a daily basis to the incoming freshmen and their parents.

“The Scholarship recipient receives $2,500 a year,” Chairperson of the Department of Communication Richard Krause said. “The terms of the scholarship require the student to stay in the communication department. They have to maintain a 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) and they have to fill the role of a leader in the department.”

“It gives them a chance to earn a $10,000 scholarship,” senior Logan Lepiscopo said. “I think it was successful in the way that those people were able to come out and showcase what they are capable of.”

This year, seven students took part in the contest, and they were able to showcase their skills and meet more members of the department faculty and students.

Even though the high school students were competing for a scholarship, they also had the opportunity to hear some advice from the current students who are making or leaving their mark on the Department of Communication.

“I talked to a few of them after one of their segments and mainly asked them how they did,” Lepiscopo said. “And be confident when doing these things.”
