The Waynesburg University Student Activities Board (SAB) will be hosting the first Coffeehouse of April when it hosts Beth//James April 6.
Beth//James is a duo from Austin, Texas, that consists of singer-songwriters Mikaela Beth Kahn and Jordan James Burchill – the name of the duo came from the combination of their middle names. According to their website, the two met in 2008 at University of North Texas and played in several bands together before becoming a duo only a year ago.
Beth//James’ debut EP, “All In Life,” will be released April 28.
“Their genre is indie folk, so a little different than what we’ve had before in the past, but we wanted to kind of cater from each [student’s] likes of music,” said Erin Kern, a graduate assistant with Student Services.
Although the group will bring a different genre to campus, Kern said that she believes the group will be perceived well by Waynesburg students.
She said that she believes the students from SAB chose to bring Beth//James to campus because of the harmonies that the group performs and the fact that the group writes their original music.
While the group writes their own songs, Kern believes the group does play covers of popular songs and will incorporate the two together.
Students are encouraged to attend the event to experience the relaxed environment and enjoy listening to the artists that the SAB takes their time to select to bring to campus. Those who attend will be given a ticket at the beginning of the event and after the event is over, will turn their ticket in to receive the WU Coffeehouse.
The event will start at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in the Beehive.
