The softball team opened their season against future PAC opponent Allegheny College on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

The first matchup was a tight, pitcher-dominant game. Freshman Yellow Jackets pitcher Sydney Wilson pitched seven shutout innings, while only allowing two hits in the first game.

Allegheny College’s freshman pitcher Aleya Belardinelli held the Jackets to only two hits throughout the first five innings, until the Jacket offense took the lead in the sixth

Junior catcher Brin Hunter went from first to home after getting walked in her at-bat and a wild pitch scored the only Yellow Jacket run.

Sydney Wilson picked up her fourth win of the season, including her time in Myrtle, which also came from a dominant defensive performance by Waynesburg.

“I have a lot of faith in my teammates, and I would put any of them in the field,” Wilson said. “I know their capabilities and I did not doubt them once.”

Sophomore first baseman Emma Bliss made a phenomenal diving catch in the top of the fourth, and freshman outfielder Mackenzie Kearns made a warning track catch in the top of the sixth to keep the Yellow Jackets intact.

Waynesburg won the first game 1-0 and the second game of the doubleheader ended in a similar fashion at 1-0 as well.
