Oct. 28, 2024, I woke up as it was just another Monday, and as I continued to get dressed and ready for my first class, I received a text from my best friend, Adam Helbling, saying, “It is sports equinox day.” For those who are unfamiliar, such as myself, that is when I had to do some research on what he was talking about. 

“This is a rare time when four of the major American sports leagues; the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL all play games on the same day,” said espn.com in an article written by ESPN Staff on Oct. 29, titled, “Notable results from Monday’s ‘sports equinox.’ “The equinox represents a unique chance for sports fans to experience multiple games across different sports.”

This rarely happens because the MLB season usually ends in October, right at the same time the NBA season begins. 

The NHL also begins in October, and will go on until around the end of June. 

Also, NFL games are only on three of the seven days during the week, so the chances of all the major sports happening on one day seem. 

Considering how seldom the world gets to see this occur,I think, as a sports fan, this is the greatest day ever. People can be watching the Pittsburgh Steelers compete against the New York Giants, then can switch the channel and observe the Los Angeles Dodgers beating the New York Yankees. 

“Something unique to this year’s sports equinox, there are also MLS games happening,” said fanduel.com in a post that detailed the specifics of the occurrence. 

Even if you are not a sports fan, this is a rare occasion that is being with the four major sporting leagues being played all on one day. 

“This is the 31st sports equinox in history,”  fanduel.com continued. “The most recent occurrence was last year on Oct. 30.” 

Along with sports playing on this, day there are plenty of ways for people to also bet on all four professional sports as well. Which brings in a plethora of revenue for people and sportsbooks. 

As I concluded my long day of classes and tasks to complete, I was able to go back to my room and catch the back end of all the games. From the Steelers, Dodgers, Celtics and Golden Knights I was able to watch all four major American sports within one night.
