Two unbeaten conference rivals meet under the lights on Friday

The Jefferson Morgan Rockets have been firing on all cylinders for the first four weeks of the season, outscoring their opponents 180-62. In their most recent game, they defeated Mapletown 62-14.

“It was a good game in the aspect that we won,” said Shane Ziats, who serves as Jefferson’s head coach. “But I don’t know if we were prepared enough, we just need to be more focused.”

For Jefferson, they come into this game 4-0 against a Carmichaels team who may have caught the eye of many people this season.

“They are a very dynamic offense, we need to really pay attention to what they’re running and who has the ball,” Ziats said.

As for the players of Jefferson, there’s always something that needs to happen.

“You always have to keep the energy up on and off the field. I talk to them, motivate them and push the team week in and week out,” said Houston Guesman, quarterback for Jefferson.  “There are many people on our team that are leaders and always have their energy up.”

For Carmichaels, their season has looked a little bit different, yet still unbeaten to this point.

They were off week 0, then their week 1 game against Sto Rox was called off nearing the end of the 3rd quarter tied 8-8 due to acclimate weather. Since then, the Mikes have won their last two games against Frazier 50-20, and Bethcenter 18-0.

“The defense played really well, and there were lots of positives,” said Ryan Krull, who serves as Carmichaels head coach. “We’re not quite where we want to be yet, we just need sustained success.”

However, for Carmichaels, this could be one of the toughest games of the season with an experienced Jefferson team.

“We need to contain number two [Houston Guesman]. He’s a good player as a runner and thrower,” Krull said.“He’s really good at extending the play.”

Even though it might be the biggest game for Carmichaels this season, nothing will change in terms of preparation for the Mikes.

“It’s nothing different for us, we still need to take it one play, one practice and one game at a time for us,” Krull explained.

The game will take place at Coaches Field with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
