Veteran’s Affairs hosting local craft day event

Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary (VFW Auxiliary) post 4793 is hosting a Fall Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, Nov. 16. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

The organization is one branch of the Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. According to their website, the auxiliary is one of the “nation’s oldest veterans’ service organizations.” Their members volunteer and fundraise for projects that benefit active military personnel, veterans and their families. They also work to affect legislation that affects veterans, such as healthcare, memorial affairs and transition assistance, among others.

Heather LaNoue, the auxiliary president and coordinator for the event, described the benefit to local veterans.

“We hold the annual Fall and Spring craft show, and we invite local vendors and artisans to come in and set up and sell their goods. We use the proceeds to purchase food to make dinners, and we do some volunteer work. We also donate to several veterans’ associations.”

This fall’s craft and vendor show builds upon the tradition of bi-annual craft shows in both the fall and spring, which have been hosted for around the last six years. The 2024 spring show featured an array of handcrafted goods, such as crocheted items, candles and quilts, as well as live plants and other unique creations according to LaNoue. Visitors also enjoyed a variety of food options, including Morning Rush and What’s Smokin’ BBQ.

LaNoue continued, “They should come and support the event just to support our local artisans to see a part of what the VFW does as a whole, and supporting our local veterans and their families. Our whole cause as the auxiliary is to provide support, awareness and information to the community.”

For those interested in the event, as stated, the doors open promptly at 8:00 a.m.
