Waynesburg kicks off classes with Noon Tunes

Waynesburg University held an event known as Noon Tunes on Wednesday the 8th during lunch at the Beehive. At this event, singer and guitar player Mutlu Onaral came and played some excellent music for students while free coffee and tea were served on the side with people’s lunches. Noon Tunes is a great time for students to hang out together and allows them to discover a new musical artist.

Mutlu Onaral, originally from Philadelphia, played a nice mix of original songs written by himself and covers of widely known songs, such as Harvest Moon by Neil Young and Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers. “Listening to my favorite artists (and genres), Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, and Philly soul is really what got me interested in music. I wanted to be an actor growing up, but a friend taught me how to play guitar in college and that is when it all started.”

“I work with a company called Degy that books a lot of shows at colleges, so they sent me here, which is my first time in Waynesburg,” says Onaral when asked about how he ended up performing here for the day. “I typically tour bigger cities so it’s really cool to see a smaller town like this and really explore somewhere I’ve never been before.”

Students showed up, grabbed some food and coffee, and had a relaxing afternoon with Onaral performing in the back. “It was a fun afternoon! I honestly didn’t even know there was going to be a performer there until I went up for lunch. He was really good. Not too loud so people could still do their work and socialize, but still loud enough for those who were there to listen to him sing,” says Sydney Waryanka, a freshman on the softball team who was pleasantly surprised by the event.

“It was definitely a cool event. It is nice that a smaller campus like Waynesburg knows how to interact with their students and hold fun things for them to look forward to. Even if it’s something simple like this it still makes it cool for us,” says Matthew Serrano, a freshman on the soccer team who was enjoying lunch with his friends during the performance.
