Waynesburg University introduces Union Latino to list of clubs

A new club is coming to Waynesburg University this spring.

Union Latino, the newest culture club to make its way to Waynesburg University highlights all the features of the Latino and Hispanic cultures. The club was started up at the beginning of the 2024 spring semester and is led by four students at Waynesburg.

Diana Hernandez, a freshman communication major who is of both Latino and Hispanic descent, as well as co-president of the club, described the club’s motto as “creating a community for Hispanics to feel safe and connected while bringing the culture and educating the campus.”

The club offers an assortment of activities such as cultural games, sharing traditional Hispanic foods and dance nights, where they incorporate Hispanic music and dances.

Hernandez further mentioned that anyone is welcome to the club, and it is an extremely “laid back” event. “There weren’t many that showed up to the first meeting, but with those who did show up, we were able to educate and see everyone’s personalities shine. It is a laidback meeting, just having a good time all around.” Hernandez said.

Hernandez is joined by her roommate Lluvia Suarez, senior Veronica Cenobio and junior Savannah Lopez as the student leaders of the club.

“We’re planning to make cultural food and pass it out around campus after our next meeting,” Suarez said.

The club meets two times a month. The next meeting will be held Feb. 12.
