Waynesburg University to hold career fair

Waynesburg University is hosting a career fair for students of all majors on Feb 22. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m.

According to Melinda Rush, administrative assistant for the Pathways Center, there are currently 30 employers registered for the event.

“We are aiming to have between 40 and 50 represented by the time registration closes. We have organizations with multiple positions open in many fields,” she said.

Nursing students will have at least 11 employers to speak with during the fair. All other majors will have at least 5 employers to meet with.

Rush said students should be prepared to interact with employers in a professional environment and build their professional network. Students should be dressed professionally for the event, and she said the “Career Closet” in the Eberly Library is a resource available for students who need clothes for the event.

“[Students] should create a list of questions to ask employers and practice a firm handshake and good eye contact. Be prepared to provide the employer with concise and relevant information,” she said. “Be professional, polite, and positive.”

Rush said the event will help students prepare for their future careers.

“Being exposed to all of the opportunities at a Career Fair may open students to career paths that they may not be familiar with. Also, meeting several employers gives students a chance to practice their interviewing skills, the first time approaching an employer may be daunting, but after you have done it a few times, it may become more natural and effective,” she said.
