Women’s Tennis Final Matches Preview

The Waynesburg University Women’s Tennis team is approaching their final matches of the season beginning on Thursday, Oct. 5.

In the last remaining matches of the season, Freshman Karly Starcher stated, “I want to see myself obviously win, however, improving is the biggest accomplishment regardless.”

Before their next match, Head Coach Randy Petit stated, “We will work on what the team suggested during the match, so they do not cool down before their first of the three final matches.”

The match on Thursday is at home against Washington & Jefferson College at 5 p.m. This is the Yellow Jackets and Presidents’ 17th meeting all-time and Waynesburg leads nine matches to eight. Waynesburg has lost the last seven matches to Washington & Jefferson but looks to change that around on Thursday.

Of the remaining matches of the season Starcher said, “I look forward to all my matches, win or loss, it’s still an experience I appreciate.”

The second of the last four matches of the season will be on Friday, Oct. 6, at home against non-conference opponent Mount Aloysius College. This is the final home match for the Yellow Jackets and it is slated for a 4 p.m. start time.

Mount Aloysius leads Waynesburg all time in head-to-head play at 4-2, with  the Mounties having won the previous three matches against the Yellow Jackets.

“To prepare myself for the end of season, I note that I’m only one court away from being able to play,” Starcher said. “Especially being able to befriend my fellow tennis players, we can learn both off and on season.”

The third of the final four matches of the season will be on the road against Presidents Athletic Conference opponent, Geneva College on Monday, Oct. 9.

The Golden Tornadoes lead the Yellow Jackets all time with a record of 14-3. Waynesburg looks to turn history around against Geneva and pick up a win against them for the first time since 2014.

The final match of the season will be against conference opponent Fransician University on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. Fransiscan leads Waynesburg all-time three matches to none.
