Women’s T&F get final tune-up before Indoor PAC’s

The Waynesburg University women’s track & field team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 14, for their final invitational before the PAC Championship. The limited ladies’ roster put up some impressive performances.

Meg Berry went just under her seedingin the women’s weight toss with a 9.96-meter throw to claim ninth place.

Berry is now in her senior season and she is using her time and experience to guide the younger athletes on the team.

“I was a captain last year too, and it has been such an honor to lead this team,” the veteran thrower wrote in an email interview. “I have had such a fun time and I am blessed to be a captain and an example for all the other athletes on the team. I am so, so excited for the underclassmen. Most of them are extremely hard working, and it is so nice to see the dedication and love they have for the sport.”

Madison Bidniuk also competed in the mile run, finishing with a time of 7:25 and quickly turned around to run the 3000 meter, notching a time of 15:18.

Bidniuk, in her freshman year, has struggled with injuries but was able to race this past Friday.

“Dealing with an injury was definitely hard, but I am thankful to God for allowing me to get healthy and back to the sport I love,”the freshman also wrote in an email interview. “I am grateful for this sport every day, and am excited to compete in the glory of God the rest of the season.”

Head coach, Chris Hardie remains impressed with this group of young women. However, he is not content and is looking ahead.

“The work ethic is there and we are happy with what the ladies have accomplished. But we all have high hopes for even bigger and better things as we head into the PAC indoor championship and the early part of the outdoor season,” Hardie said.

The women have some time off from competition for a while. The PAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27.
