Yellow Jackets Take Down Red Hawks

The Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets broke their 3-game road losing streak during their recent trip to La Roche University where they took down the Redhawks with a 4-0 victory.

After a scoreless first half, senior Julz Mohrbacher got things started for the Yellow Jackets, scoring a goal during the 46th minute of the match, followed by another goal scored during the 55th minute.

Both Mohrbacher’s goals were aided by junior Amanda Pepe, whose assists got Mohrbacher up to a team-high of 6 points for the season thus far.

“It’s a great win for the team. They are playing well and training hard, and it was nice to see them be rewarded for their efforts,” head coach George DeAugustino said. “They learned a lot from last weekend and were able to make the necessary adjustments to find success in the game on Tuesday.”

After Mohrbacher’s tremendous efforts in the beginning of the second half of the match, sophomore Ryan White kept up the momentum by scoring a goal a third of the way through the match with an assist from sophomore Brynn Kirby, taking the Yellow Jackets lead to 3-0 and giving Kirby her first assist of the season.

White scored again in the 78th minute with an assist from freshman Bella Kershasky to round out the final score to make it 4-0 in the Yellow Jackets favor, also giving Kershasky the first point of her collegiate career.

“It feels great, and it gets us excited to keep going,” Mohrbacher said. “We had a tough last few games, but we earned a win and we’re continuously working really hard to grow and get better, so I’m very proud of the team for the work they are putting in.”

Waynesburg University Women’s Soccer will be back in action Friday, Sept. 11, for its home opener at John F. Wiley Stadium where they will take on the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
