Volleyball loses to Allegheny on senior day

On Saturday, Nov 1, Waynesburg volleyball suffered a President’s Athletic Conference defeat to the visiting Allegheny Gators, 3-0.

After losing the first two sets 18-25 and 12-25, they forced overtime in set three, before eventually dropping 28-30, completing the sweep for Allegheny.

Waynesburg celebrated their seniors in what was their final home game of their college careers. Emily Stutzman, Macee Cree, Riley Ruffley, and Paige Mortimore are now just two games away from the end of their college careers.

Mortimore said the emotions on Saturday were so surreal and very happy.

“Senior day was very bittersweet,” Mortimore said. “It was very emotional realizing that it was the last time I was playing on our home court with my teammates, specifically my fellow seniors who I have played with the past four years and have become my best friends.”

Ruffley led the team with 20 assists and five aces, having a great performance in her final home game. Ruffley was able to collect her 1,000th career assist earlier this season and having that memory during her senior season is one that will last a lifetime.

“Being able to celebrate my 1,000 assists with my teammates will be a very cherished memory,” Ruffley said.

For other senior statistics, Mortimore and Stutzman both collected a kill, and Cree had six digs during their time on the court. Overall, while a bittersweet sendoff for the seniors, they had fondness for their time at Waynesburg.

“The friendships, support, and memories created with my teammates made every practice, bus ride, and game meaningful and fun,” Mortimore said.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday on the road against Saint Vincent at 7:00 p.m in Latrobe, PA.
