Sara Clegg - The Yellow Jacket The Waynesburg women’s basketball team defeated Hiram on Saturday, 79-62. Saturday also served as senior and alumni day for the women’s basketball team.
Senior guard Kalista Friday led Waynesburg in points with 19, followed by junior guard Kara McFadden and senior guard Tori Wesolowski with 13 points.
Wesolowski said that she could not stop smiling the entire day with all of the excitement.
“I’m so blessed to have been able to call Waynesburg home for four years,” Wesolowski said. “I felt so much love from my coaches, teammates, friends, and family, and it was truly a day I will never forget.”
Wesolowski said that even with all of the celebrations happening over the course of the day, the main goal was to finish the game with a win.
“I love contributing to the team in whatever way I can, so I was very happy that I was able to support the team in that way and get the win on this very special day,” Wesolowski said.
With Wesolowski’s 13 points in the win, her main goal offensively stayed the same, and that was to contribute to the team as much as she can.
“I went into the game knowing I was going to give it my all and wanted to play well for all my family and friends watching,” Wesolowski said. “I was happy that I was able to perform well from the field.”
During the game, Wesolowski got to accomplish a new milestone in her career, and that was making her first career collegiate three-pointer.
“I have to let coach Jones know that there’s another shooter on the team now,” Wesolowski said.
Waynesburg wins its fifth straight game and improves to an 11-10 overall record and a 7-5 Presidents’ Athletic Conference record.
Waynesburg sits tied for fourth place in the PAC South Division standings with the Chatham Cougars. The top four teams in the South Division qualify for the PAC Playoffs.
The team’s next game is on Wednesday, Feb. 11, on the road versus the Bethany Bison at 7:30 p.m.
