Women’s basketball concludes season with loss to Presidents

On Saturday, February 21, the Lady Yellow Jackets fell to the Washington and Jefferson Presidents by a final score of 100-63.

The only time Waynesburg led was from an early Kalista Friday three-pointer. The Presidents then went on a 29-0 run to outpace the Jackets and keep them from scoring a point for the rest of the first.

The Lady Js only scored 14 points in the entire first quarter, while the Presidents put up 42 points.

The rest of the game followed the same story; the Yellow Jackets only reached a quarter-high 19 points in the fourth to end the game. Friday was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points, followed by senior Clara Paige Miller with 14 and junior Julz Mohrbacher with 10.

Although the season ended with a loss, many seniors are happy that they got to experience the game of basketball with this team. Miller said that this year was a year to remember for herself.

“It meant the world to me to play with this team this season. This is by far my favorite team I have ever played on, and these girls will be my friends long after college,” Miller said.

Memorable moments were made this season, with game winners, upsets, and tons of time well spent with the team. For Miller, she said her most memorable moment was their win against St. Vincent on the road in early February.

“Beating St. Vincent away this year. I had never beaten them in my career before then, & at the time they were leading the conference,” Miller said.

The Yellow Jackets finish their 2025-26 season with a 12-13 overall record, and 8-8 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, which was fifth best in the south division.
