Barry and Baker shine bright in Mountaineer Twilight

The Waynesburg University women’s outdoor track and field team traveled to Morgantown, W.Va. on Saturday to compete in the Mountaineer Twilight.

Freshman Rylie Baker finished in eight place in the discus throw with a distance of 29.97 meters.

Baker said that this meet is helping her prepare for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships.

“My mentality leading into this meet, especially with it being so close to PACs, was to do my best and hopefully increase my personal record so that I would be seeded higher for PACs,” Baker said. “It helped me collect my thoughts, fix my mental state, and focus on what God needed me to so that he could aid me and help me do my best to finish out the season on a high note.”

Junior Megan Barry placed second in javelin, throwing 33.93 meters. Barry said that she uses her faith and trust as motivation every time she is throwing.

“This year has been a big trusting God year for me and remembering to have fun,” Barry said. “This weekend that’s all I did was have fun and that’s what I needed for myself.”

Barry also talks about the mental battle she has dealt with all year and how she has learned the importance of being a college athlete.

“This year has been the most mental battle of my entire career,” Barry said. “I have learned the importance of having fun and enjoying being a college athlete for as long as I can.”

Baker also looks back on her season and is thankful for the amount of support she received.

“I love how friendly and supportive my teammates are and my mom is,” Baker said. “Whenever I am having a bad meet, they are always there for me.”
