Dollar Tree moving to Walgreens location

The Dollar Tree in Waynesburg is changing location in the next few weeks. The store, which is located on 55 Sugar Run Rd., is set to merge with the local Walgreens Pharmacy.

The move is set to take place this year between the middle of April and the beginning of May doubling  the store’s current size.

According to Addy Snider, assistant manager of Dollar Tree, the upgrade in size will allow for a larger selection of items for shoppers.

“We’re going to have a lot more products,” said Snider. “There will be a frozen section, and a refrigerated section as well.”

The move, according to contractors, has been in the works for a couple of months. Snider said that she was notified of the move sometime around the end of January and the beginning of February.

The main reason behind Dollar Tree’s decision to move is to expand its business, as well as to add more items for the price of a dollar.

As for the challenges that come with the move, Snider said that she and her coworkers would not know the specifics of those hurdles until the transition comes to fruition; however, she expects the increase in items to be something that will take some time for the current staff—as well as their loyal customers—to grow into.

“I know that we are going to carrying a lot more merchandise, so that will probably be one thing that we will have to get used to,” said Snider. “We don’t have a freezer or a refrigeration section here, so once we get over there, we’re going to figure out how the setup is and all that stuff.”

As for the benefits of the move, Snider says that plenty of business aspects should improve.

“It’s definitely going to bring in more clientele,” said Snider. “We will have more products. It is going to be a bigger store. That will probably be the biggest impact, and it will also bring in more jobs as well, because since we are expanding, we are going to need more staff, so that helps out the community.”

Overall, Snider is eager for the move, yet concerned at the same time, as some questions remain unanswered.

“It’s kind of everything wrapped up into one,” Snider said. “It’s exciting that we’re moving to the new building and that we’re going to carry all of these new products. But at the same time, it’s a little scary because we don’t know how many more customers we’re going to get, and are we going to have the right products in the store? How’s our setup going to be? Is the layout going to be OKay?”

With the store now changing buildings, there is some sentimentality surrounding the move, and according to Snider, feelings have been split among members of the community.

“It’s kind of been a mixed reaction that we’ve gotten from customers,” she said. “Some people are really excited that we’re moving, and some people are like, ‘Oh no, you guys are perfect the way you are,’’ But I think, for the most part, it’s exciting.”
