The Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets hosted the winless Thiel Tomcats on Saturday and ended the season with back-to-back wins.
The Seniors led the way in scoring with Grad Student Anika Dansby scoring her career high in points with 22 and 4-6 from the arc and Senior Marley Wolf scoring 15 points and going 3-7 from the three-point line.
The Jackets started with one of their best quarters all year, scoring 30 points in the first quarter and did not slow down as they never scored less than 20 in a quarter. Dansby drained three behind the arc in the first. The Jackets would go into half with a commanding lead of 50-25.
The Jackets as a team would go 48% from the field and 36.8% from three. They got more playing time from the bench, and the team put up 37 bench points.
Dansby said that she was not focused too much about her emotions on playing her last game as a Yellow Jacket.
“I don’t think it really sunk in yet that I just played my last game. I am proud of the team for the win we talked about ending the season strong and we did that,”
Dansby continued to say how she felt about this team’s season and her accomplishments.
“Very proud of this team I know our record is not the greatest, but we improved a lot. We had a young team so just leading by example and being a leader for them was huge.”
Freshman Mia Henkins believes the future of the team is very bright.
“If we work hard in the offseason, I think we can start off more successful next season and continue our growth.”
The Lady Jackets finish the season with a 6-19 overall record, 5-15 in the conference and ninth in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tripling the number of wins from last year. With a young squad they are in control of their own destiny.
