Several Greene County businesses were destroyed in an early morning fire Wednesday, Jan. 19.
A commercial building along Wade Street caught fire around 5 a.m., according to Jeff Marshall, Chief of Waynesburg Franklin Twp. Fire Company.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
The building contained several businesses-including Pine Tree Quilt Shop, All Seasons Mat Rental, The Vape Shop, CatNip Acres Surgery Clinic-and one apartment.
“There were five businesses and one apartment in the building itself that were all destroyed by the fire,” Marshall said.
Marshall credits the local firefighters and community members who helped and provided support Wednesday morning.
“You hate seeing something like this happen but again without the community as a whole it would’ve been a lot worse than it was,” Marshall said.
Even after the flames have been extinguished, the Greene County community continues to support these local businesses. A Go Fund Me Page has been started by Greene County resident, Tanya Minardo, to raise money for Catnip Acres Clinic.
As of Wednesday afternoon, their goal of $5,000 was surpassed. Donations continue to accumulate Thursday, Jan. 20 reaching $6,660 this morning. To donate, go to https://www.gofundme.com/rebuilding-catnip-acres-clinic.
