Who doesn’t love dinner and a show? In this case, it was lunch, but the Waynesburg University Student Activity Board still had students covered for a meal with entertainment.

On Wednesday, Sept 15, the university’s SAB hosted Noon Tunes. The event was originally supposed to be held in Johnson Commons, but was moved indoors to the Beehive due to weather.

Guest artist Joe Materkowski was performing on stage in the Beehive. Materkowski is the guitarist for local band Abacus Jones. The band’s website, abacusjones.com, can be viewed here.

At the event, Materkowski played popular songs such as “Rocket Man” by Elton John, and “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.

“I really enjoy giving back to the students that are here, being a student myself,” McKenna Mercier, musical entertainment chair for SAB, said. After always helping out with new student orientation and freshmen, Mercier said this type of event was not necessarily new to her, but was still fulfilling giving back to other students.

“It’s so enjoyable to be able to just talk and be social, especially with COVID. This is one of the events where we can really talk to people and I enjoy that.”

Along with the free entertainment, a coffee station was set up for students to get free coffee to drink.

“This has been the second live music event that has been in the Beehive since before COVID.  This week is Joe Materkowski and there’s a whole group of people here and there’s coffee and tea and it’s been really great,” said Lexie Vigna, who was attending Noon Tunes to help on the technical side.
