“The Loop” suffers setback but continues

Waynesburg University has utilized “The Loop” for over a decade now, although recently there have been issues occurring in regard to involvement with the service.

Patricia Bristor, the associate dean of students at Waynesburg University, is also the person who oversees The Loop, and has done so since its inception.

When asked about the issues that have come as of late involving the service and its temporary cancellation, Bristor attributed it to the lack of student workers. Although several undergraduate students applied early in the year, the majority of those applicants did not go through with their original application.

In their place, Bristor said that her graduate assistants have taken some shifts, but the hours she can offer to them are limited, leaving a hole open for undergraduate students to take their place.

Bristor said that the reason for this absence in student workers most likely comes down to pay. She said that word has made it to the Human Resource department, posing the question of an increase in pay to incentivize other students to want to take said work study.

For those in the University community who would be interested in this service, Bristor explained how The Loop works. Prior to the temporary cancellation, the service was active two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and would have three one-hour rotations from 5 to 8 p.m. Once The Loop leaves campus, the students are taken to four different locations: Walmart, Green Plaza, Giant Eagle and another plaza in Waynesburg that includes a number of chains such as Tractor Supplies, McDonalds and more.

Despite the locations being predetermined, Bristor said specific locations can be requested if they are within the area, and students can be dropped off at said location until they are done and are picked back up by the shuttle.

Bristor said that The Loop is fantastic for all on campus, notably freshmen who for the most part do not have a vehicle on campus.

Waynesburg University also has other resources for travel such as the Greyhound and other means of transportation for those who need to make flights or get to an area outside of the range of Waynesburg or even Greene County. For more information on The Loop and similar services, there are a number of flyers and brochures that can be found on the third floor of the Stover Building.
