Waynesburg Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak To Two After Taking Down Franciscan (From 1-29-21)

Just three days after defeating Saint Vincent inside the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening, the Yellow Jackets were able to form their first win streak of the season defeating the Franciscan Barons Saturday afternoon with a score of 68-48.

After Franciscan was able to jump to a 5-4 lead early into the contest, the Yellow Jackets were able to rally off six-straight points, going on to maintain a four-point lead into the second quarter.

This is where the contest became more one-sided, as the Jackets scored 22 points in the next 10 minutes while being able to hold the Barons to nine in that same span.

After going into halftime with a 37-20 edge, Waynesburg never let its foot off the pedal as they expanded their lead to 56-31. The Lady J’s eventually expanded that to 66-35 with a mere three minutes remaining in the game.

It was an impressive game, to say the least for the team, as Waynesburg never trailed through the contest after the first two minutes and outscored the Barons for the first three quarters.

To add to an impressive team’s effort were showings from several key players, such as recent 1,000-point scorer Brooke Fuller, who added 16 more points to her increasing total on the afternoon. Fuller recorded 7-of-10 shooting and notched six rebounds in what was yet another stellar showing from the senior center.

To add to that, Marley Wolf just missed out on notching a double-double landing two three-pointers in the matchup as well as leading the team in rebounds with nine.

Avery Robinson led the team in assists with four to add to her six points and eight rebounds.

Waynesburg was nothing less than efficient from the free-throw line, going 23-for-26, scoring 12 points off the 20 total turnovers from Franciscan, and the bench being responsible for 19 of the 68.

Waynesburg women’s basketball look to expand this winning streak to three on Wednesday, Feb. 2, as the Yellow Jackets travel to Thiel and face the 4-9 Tomcats. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
